The holiday shopping season is underway at Garden City Center, and while Santa won’t be making an appearance this year due to the pandemic, shoppers will find a festive atmosphere with weekend strolls featuring holiday lights and music, Santa’s helpers and a new self-photo experience at the gazebo.
“The realities of the pandemic and the need for social distancing are forcing all of us to do things differently this year, and yet we know that shoppers look forward to Garden City Center's festive holiday traditions and we want to keep as much of that as possible this year,” said Joe Koechel, general manager of Garden City Center.
For those seeking to take photos amidst a festive atmosphere, Verde Garden Shop, a seasonal pop-up at Garden City, has designed a display at the gazebo that features trees, wreathes, and other natural elements to make for a cozy place where families can take their own outdoor holiday photographs.
Garden City Center’s holiday strolls are a long-time tradition during the season and will next take place between 5 and 7 p.m. on Dec. 12. The strolls will feature steel drummers, carolers in Victorian-era clothing, hot chocolate and a brass holiday band playing traditional and modern holiday songs. Additionally, Santa will be sending some of his elves during the strolls to walk around the shopping center handing out the occasional “surprise” for children and adults alike.
Additionally, Garden City Center is partnering with The Tomorrow Fund’s Adopt-A-Family program to benefit families in need whose children are undergoing cancer treatment at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Shoppers can purchase a Garden City Center gift card at the kiosk located in the Midway Place Offices in any donation and place it in the nearby drop box.
“The majority of Garden City shoppers report plans to shop in-store this season for the primary reason of enjoying the in-store experience,” Koechel said. “Many are also planning to take advantage of our Pick Up Quick curbside program as well as buy-online-pick up-in-store options provided by our retailers. Selfcare, home décor and furnishings, home office accessorizing and cozy wardrobe staples are all expected to be top sellers this year.”
