Bay View ends Pilgrim’s playoff run

Posted

The Pilgrim softball team’s Division I playoff run ended last Wednesday when it fell 4-1 to Bay View in the losers’ bracket final at Rhode Island College.

The Bengals were led by standout pitcher Sarah Trosin, who held the Patriots scoreless through six innings. As Bay View led 4-0 heading into the seventh inning, Pilgrim would get its lone run when Gatorade Player of the Year Alyssa Twomey hit a solo home run. However, Trosin would recover and put away the victory to advance to the state championship.

Twomey pitched a complete game for the Pats and finished with 11 strikeouts. Pilgrim’s bats were shut down in the contest, with only Genna D’Amato and Audra McDonnell registering hits along with Twomey’s home run.

La Salle would go on to beat the Bengals the following game to clinch the state title. The Rams went undefeated in the postseason to win their first championship since the 2019 season. The Pilgrim seniors reached the playoffs three straight seasons and made the state finals in both 2021 and 2022 before falling to the Coventry Oakers each time.
