David Testa, member of the Warwick School Committee, was elected President of the Rhode Island Association of School Committees (RIASC) at their 2022 Annual Meeting held at Crowne Plaza in Warwick on May 7.

David has served on the Warwick School Committee since 2016 and has been a RIASC board member since 2018. He has a commitment to ongoing professional development, as evidenced by his graduation from RIASC’s Leadership Academy that was recognized by the Rhode Island Board of Education, and has achieved RIASC’s Master’s Academy status.

When he assumed his new role, David said, “It is a pleasure and honor to be elected President, and I will continue to enhance RIASC's role in school committee professional development and advocacy.”

Also elected were: Paul Bourget, Woonsocket School Committee, as RIASC President-elect, and Susan St. Amand, West Warwick School Committee, as Secretary/Treasurer. Michael Traficante of the Cranston School Committee was elected as a new RIASC Board Member for a two-year term. RIASC does its best to seek representation from school committees across the state. Other Board members include: Diane Chiaradio Bowdy, Westerly; Sandra Flowers, Newport; Jean Harnois, Smithfield; and Kathy Patenaude, Coventry.

RIASC is dedicated to developing the effectiveness of Rhode Island school committee members in meeting their roles and responsibilities in promoting student achievement in safe and challenging learning environments, while playing a leading part in shaping and advocating public education policy at the local, state and national levels.
