June M. Dean (Retzloff), 86, of South Kingstown passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024, after a short illness.  She was the proud and loving mother of Michelle Wingate (husband Bruce) and Kelly Hart (husband Patrick); devoted grandmother of Bridget (Campanale) Fitzsimmons (husband Patrick), Domenic Campanale (wife Kaitlin), Devon Campanale (wife Kathryn) and Alexander Wingate; and three great-grandchildren, Landon, Callie and Adeline.

June was a daughter of the late Harry and Isabelle Retzloff; and sister of Carol Corcelli (husband Ralph) and Lance Retzloff.  She was predeceased by her brother John D. Retzloff and sister Isabelle M. Henry.

June was always in the pursuit of knowledge and graduated with distinction from URI and was a member of four honor societies including Phi Kappa Phi, with a degree in sociology.  She was a certified counselor and a member of the executive board of Talbot House for many years, also serving in the criminal justice program.

A lover of the arts and nature, she was a published poet, and a background extra in many local film productions including Walt Disney’s Under Dog.  She could always be found working in her yard or taking a stroll along the Narragansett beach wall, enjoying the sea and fresh air.

June retired after 28 years of State service, first at the Rhode Island Department of Health before finding her work home for many years at University of Rhode Island.  While working as Administrative Assistant in the Math Department, June simultaneously continued her education, leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.

Her greatest love was of family and spending time with them.  Her children and grandchildren were the most important part of her life.  Her cheery personality will be sorely missed.

June’s family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of South County Hospital.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 9:45am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory – SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Road, (Rt. 1A), Narragansett followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 864 Point Judith Road, Narragansett.  Burial will be in Mount St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.  VISITING HOURS are Monday, June 24, 2024, from 4-7PM.  Visit NardolilloFH.com for online condolences.
