Dianne K. Young passed away in the comfort of her home among family members in Scituate, MA.  Formerly of Warwick, RI, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Lorene Kaufman.  Born in Providence, RI, on October 18th 1937, she was the beloved wife of William I. Young.  Dianne grew up in Warwick Neck and graduated from Gorton High school. She matriculated to the University of Rhode Island, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Home Economics and English.  While at the university, she was the president of her sorority, Delta Zeta.  In 1959, Dianne was elected Miss URI.  She was employed as a buyer for Filene’s Basement and was a Girl in White at the Providence Gas Company.  After her marriage she and William resided in Flushing, New York.  She worked at Good Housekeeping Magazine, while sitting on the council for the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.  Dianne then moved to Boston, where she supervised the Test Kitchen at the gourmet food company S.S. Pierce.
Deciding to raise a family, she and her husband moved to Scituate, Mass.  There she immersed herself as a volunteer in the public school system.  She belonged to the League of Women Voters where she advocated for open spaces and the preservation of her town.   In addition she was a longtime volunteer and member of the Friends of the Scituate Town Library, and a member of Hatherly Country Club. She pursued a second career as an editor for Elderhostel International.
She was a true friend to all and possessed a deep social conscience.  She loved to cook, travel  and garden. Always possessed of good humor and cheer, she exuded style and grace.  She was happiest sitting on the beach at her summer home in West Dennis, Cape Cod.  She was an avid reader, and she could always be found with a book in her hands while sitting at the beach enjoying the breeze and the ocean.  She was predeceased by her loving daughter Jessica Anne Young and her brother Allan "Bing" Kaufman.  Besides her husband William, she is survived by her cherished son Jason D. Young, who was her caregiver in the last years of her life.  She is also survived by her twin sister Anne F. Velis of Warwick, Ri, and brother Arthur J. Kaufman of Saunderstown, RI. She leaves behind several loving nieces and nephews.   Her burial will be private.  Donations in her name to The Association to Preserve Cape Cod or Friends of the Scituate Town Library would be appreciated.
