Disciple of recycling

He has yet to be named although Bottle Buddy and Robot Bob has been suggested, but the sculpture at the inside door to the Warwick Public Library is getting plenty of attention. He stands at least six feet tall, wears a plastic bucket for a hat, a paper smile and moustache and has green eyes, the caps of water bottles. The chicken wire body frame and arms are filled with empty plastic water bottles. His creator Katie Arnold doesn’t have a bottle count. Nonetheless, Arnold who works in the library internet technology department is not lacking on Warwick recycling data or what inspired her to make a bottle man. She was appalled to learn that the city paid an additional $43,000 last year in tipping fees because recycling collections were contaminated by non-recyclable items and had to be dumped in the landfill. She thought if homeowners realized what this is costing, they would be more careful in sorting trash from recyclables. Alongside her bottle man, who made his appearance in time for Earth Day, is information on what should be recycled. (Warwick Beacon photo)
