A former youth hockey coach and current manager at a Cranston street hockey facility has been charged with solicitation of a minor and possession of child pornography.
Michael Defelice, 50, of 19 Church St., third floor, in Cranston, was arrested Friday by members of the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, according to Rhode Island State Police. He was due to be arraigned Friday afternoon in Third Division District Court in Warwick.
According to state police, members of the ICAC Task Force recently began an investigation into the online solicitation of minors to engage in sexual conduct. Defelice was identified as the party involved, police said, and during the investigation additional information was developed indicating he was in possession of child pornography.
State police said Defelice worked as a youth deck hockey and roller hockey coach at the Cranston Street Hockey Rink from 1990 to 2003. He currently manages the facility’s deck hockey rink, and is an adult street hockey referee at Teamworks, located at 170 Jefferson Boulevard in Warwick.
“Contact has been made with supervisors at these locations and it was learned that they are not aware of any inappropriate conduct between Mr. Defelice and any children,” according to police.
