Hurtubise, Peg (Margaret Jeanne Ireland)

Peg (Margaret Jeanne Ireland) Hurtubise did it her way and died a redhead, with her nails polished, in her Warwick Neck home at 92 years of age. Peg was the daughter of Leslie Douglas Ireland and Margaret (Cartin) Ireland. She was the widow of Joseph M. Hurtubise, Jr. They had been married for 65 years. Truly, the love of each other’s life, Joe would only dance with “His M.J.” They got married after Joe chased Peg until she turned around and let him catch her. At eighteen years of age, they married and planned to have four children – two girls and two boys – and that is exactly what they did. Leslie Dwyer, Karen Hanson, Paul Hurtubise (Christine) and Carl Hurtubise (Lee-Ann).

Peg felt blessed with nine grandchildren: Douglas, Dwyer (Samantha), Genevieve Graham, Cheri Hurtubise, Tor Hansen, Jason Hurtubise (Jenna), Tory-Lee Renaud, and John-Erik Hurtubise. She truly treasured her great-grandchildren: Caeden Dwyer, Lacy Dwyer, Maisie Dwyer and Dax Hurtubise. She loved her title Noni or Nana.

Peg’s family was bigger than just her kids. Her love embraced multiple friends, nieces, nephews and she adored her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Norman Hurtubise and Kenneth and Donna Lapre.

Peg had a beautiful singing voice and shared it in church choirs most of her life. She owned two horses, and the Providence Journal did an article about her riding her horses in Narragansett Bay. She won many awards as a roller skater at the Sholes Hillsgrove Country Club Roller Rink. She was an active member of Trinity Church Pawtuxet, Cranston; Quahog Lodge #725; Vasa Order of America and had been a member of the sorority Beta Sigma Phi; Warwick Neck Home Makers and Narragansett Bay Women’s Club. She also made one heck of a Cub Scout Mother.

Peg was a wonderful baker of wedding and specialty cakes with her daughter Karen; many were created for the celebrities who performed at the Warwick Musical Theater. One would also consider themselves lucky to receive one of her incredible hand-knitted creations.

Peg was a retired Medical Assistant/Office Manager and helped many doctors in Rhode Island start their practices. Her last position was with Dr. Henry J. Maciejewski.

The family would like to thank the fine people from Hope Health Hospice and her incredible niece, Gail Isherwood, for making Peg’s final time on earth so comfortable.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Trinity Church Pawtuxet, 139 Ocean Ave., Cranston, RI, on Sunday, October 6, at 1 p.m.
