With Department of Environmental Management approval of a remediation plan for hazardous material buried on the site, which took two years, the city is ready to move ahead with a redesign and renovation of the Mickey Stevens Sports Complex. While voters approved a $7 million bond in 2006, the city has not issued the bonds nor would Mayor Frank Picozzi take that step without first seeking grants for the project. He said Tuesday the city would advertise for bids to design and rebuild the complex now that it has a DEM remediation plan. This is a conceptual design as developed by city planners.
