Dr. Stanley Carpenter of the Naval War College will present a seven-part series on the rise and fall of empires on Wednesdays and Thursdays, October 19, 26 & 27 and November 2, 3, 9 & 16 at 7 p.m.
On October 19, explore Athens vs. Sparta in the Peloponnesian War. On October 26, learn about the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, and on October 27, hear about the French Revolution and Napoleon.
On November 2, discover the Franco-Prussian War and the rise of Imperial Germany. On November 3, examine the Russo-Japanese War and the rise of Imperial Japan. On November 9, dig into 1918 and the fall of the German Empire, and on November 16, investigate the French-Algerian War and the fall of the French Empire.
Stanley D.M. Carpenter is Professor Emeritus at the Naval War College in Newport and a retired U.S. Naval officer.
