Morning has broken

Voices joined together during the early outdoor Sunday morning services celebrating Easter and its message of life eternal. Celebrants arrived as early dawn at Warwick Neck Lighthouse for a sunrise service hosted by five churches, Norwood Baptist, Warwick Central Baptist, St. Barnabas Episcopal, Lakewood Baptist and Warwick Hope Assembly of God. A slight breeze added to the morning chill, but the rising sun brought warmth and joy to the day. Only a short drive away, people gathered at 7 a.m. at Oakland Beach not far from the seawall for a reenactment of Jesus revealing himself to the disciples as they fished the Sea of Tiberias. A man on shore called out, asking if they had caught any fish. When the disciples said they hadn’t, the man told them to cast their nets on the right side of the boat. Their nets were so full they had difficulty hauling them in. The disciples then realized it was the resurrected Jesus who they joined on shore. With the reenactment completed, children who played the role of disciples passed out bread and fish sticks to those on the beach. The service, that hasn’t been held since the COVID shutdown, was sponsored by the First Congregational Church of Warwick and St. Rita’s Church. (Text and photos by John Howell)
