With the recent delivery of a ladder truck costing $1.2 million, the Fire Department administration said it has nearly reached the position of having sufficient reserve vehicles to cease calling upon neighboring departments for loaners when a vehicle goes in for repairs. A $989,322 AFG secured by the state Congressional delegation paid for 85 percent of the cost of the new truck with a 95-foot tower ladder. It replaces the 1998 ladder based at Station 1. Following a brief ceremony last Thursday, Senator Jack Reed and Mayor Frank Picozzi were treated to a non-emergency ride in the ladder with Firefighter Jennifer Velan at the wheel.
