The environmental review of the Mickey Stevens Sports Complex has finally been finished. We now know what we can and must do. I’ve sent it out to conceptual design. Acting on the suggestions of the committee that I had put together, what we’re looking to do is the following: 2 turf baseball fields, a walking track, tennis courts, pickleball courts, a playground, a splash pad and skateboard track. As I said, it’s just in the conceptual stage right now so nothing is carved in stone and the makeup may change but it is going to get done. When there’s more info and plans are drawn up I’ll update you.

Sherman School just had their official ribbon cutting. The refurbishment that has gone on for the last two years is complete and the school looks beautiful. I can’t say enough about the Sherman staff and faculty, the PTO, and the parents and school community. A prime example of when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. They all worked together to make sure that the two years that the kids were displaced were actually very special.

What a great turnout at Lippitt Schools back to school bash this evening. The kids and parents are very excited about the new school year that’s about to start.

Monday is Labor Day, and it goes without saying - but I’m saying it anyway - there will not be trash, recycling, or yard waste pickup on Monday, there will be a one day delay all week.

Tuesday will be the first day of school.

Some of you have noticed that there is a large police presence at TF Green Airport. This statement is from the airport: "Rhode Island T.F. Green Airport is currently in lockdown as law enforcement addresses a potential security threat. Travelers are asked to delay arrivals at the airport at this time. More information will be provided when available," the airport said in a statement. From RIDOT: "All Travel Lanes blocked on Airport Connector EB at Exit 1A (Jefferson Boulevard) in Warwick - Incident at TF Green Airport." This is all of the information that I can give you at this time. WPD SWAT has declared there is no threat at the airport, and it is reopening.

Sherman School showed their school spirit this evening by having a welcome back parade. It was a great turnout. The kids are very excited to have their building back this year and are anxious for the year to start.Thank you Cassidy Noelle for organizing this for the kids and also inviting me.

To all the students returning to school today- Have a great year!!!!

I visited several schools this morning to wish students, faculty and staff a good year. Hoxsie School was first, that’s where my grandbabies go.

Sept. 6

Don’t forget the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall will be at Rocky Point September 8th-10th!
