Thanks to the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce a live 14-foot blue spruce replaced the weathering pine outside the Thayer Arena in time for the city’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony and celebration Sunday evening. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Thursday to celebrate the gift. Appropriately, the ribbon was festooned with pinecones. Here chamber president and CEO Lauren Slocum and Mayor Frank Picozzi twirl the ribbon in front of the tree after making the cut. (Warwick Beacon photo)
