To the Editor:
I have been involved in politics for many, many years. I have run for a number of different positions, never winning any. For many reasons, I have always paid for my own expenses. I have never taken money from any organization, political or otherwise. I, therefore, do not owe consideration, favors, or whatever to any individual or organization. My dues have been paid. I am not a conformist to any group or individual.
I have two reasons for this communication: The first being Victory Day (formerly known as V-J Day). R.I. happens to be the only state that recognizes the unbelievable period in time. Lest we forget, the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, Sunday morning, Dec. 7, 1941. This barbaric act against innocent civilians and military, nearing the end of the war, the infamous Death March, an incident in history that should never be forgotten. Always remember World War II, the Korean Conflict, Vietnam and every single prisoner of war missing in action, together with those that made the ultimate sacrifice.
The second part of my communication is that I am officially endorsed for governor here in Rhode Island by the Moderate Party. Thursday, the day after declaration, I was informed, very much to my surprise. My purpose was, and is, to keep an additional political party for choice on the ballot of R.I. electors. A hearty thank you to all Rhode Islanders that signed for the Moderate Party to be on the Nov. 4 ballot!
This is a time in Rhode Island history to elect a Moderate Party. We are not left, nor right; the Moderate Party is extremely lucky for drawing the second place on the Nov. 4 election ballot. We wind up second on the ballot, right where we should be ... between the two major parties!
Semper Fidelis,
James B. Spooner
Moderate candidate
for Governor

Thank you for your service, Mr. Spooner. Of course, you realize that the Bataan Death March occurred very early in the war, and not "nearing the end of the war...". Best of luck in your electoral process. Perhaps you could articulate some of your positions, and those of the Moderate Party.
