(Unbelievable, convoluted sci-fi)
Ben Kingsley plays wealthy businessman with six months to live who opts for an expensive “procedure” called Shedding. He allows himself to be transported into the body of a younger man, assuming his life and, unfortunately, some of his memories. It’s a clever, if unbelievable concept, but hey, this is science fiction.
Ryan Reynolds plays the conflicted man who tracks down his former wife (Natalie Martinez). We learn that her husband has given his body to this Biogenic Company in exchange for money to save his ill daughter’s life.
Hard to believe is the fact that the ruthless businessman will change his morals in an instant in order to save the family of the man whose body he now possesses.
The sci-fi quickly turns into another chase movie, with the henchmen from the company tracking down the woman, her daughter, and the man she believes to be her husband.
There is some excitement and some twists and turns, but the plot is so convoluted and dragged out (two hours) that you quickly lose interest.
There are some great scenes of New Orleans.
Rated PG-13, with violence and profanity.
