Grammy-nominated songstress Sophie B. Hawkins, who has been tugging at heartstrings for decades with her poetic lyrics and captivatingly vocals will be performing in the Updike Room of the iconic Greenwich Hotel in East Greenwich, on Sunday, July 9th at 7pm.

Local RI musicians, Jen and Kasey Minuto will open the show. Hawkins newest album Free Myself came out this past spring and came to life after a tumultuous period that Hawkins refers to as “my personal tsunami,” which included splitting with her longtime partner and returning to New York after 17 years in California. Featuring some of her most emotionally powerful material to date, the album affirms Sophie B. Hawkins as a truly trailblazing and courageous artist.

The last three decades have brought her multiple awards, sold out concerts, appearances on film and television, performances with some of the best known names in the business, a critically-lauded tour-de-force performance as Janis Joplin in the nationally-touring play Room 105, and five more albums, including Whaler, which featured the record-breaking longest-running single in Billboard Adult Contemporary chart history, As I Lay Me Down.

A multi-instrumentalist, Hawkins writes all her own songs and is fully involved in every aspect of the record-making process including the production engineering of her albums. Moreover, she has also long been focused on activism and has supported animal rights, LGBTQ equality and environmental protection through the years.

Greenwich Hotel owner Joann Joseph became a fan of Hawkins since 2006 and credits her for renewing her interest in music. Shortly afterwards, Joseph was playing her bass guitar at such a level that Sophie invited her on stage at a 2018 East Greenwich Odeum show to join with the band for a number or two.
