The original May Breakfast

Posted

On Wednesday, May 1, The Oak Lawn Community Baptist Church held its 155th Annual May Breakfast, from 7 to 11 a.m., at 229 Wilbur Avenue, Cranston. The menu included classic clam cakes, scrambled eggs, ham, cornbread, coffee, juice and apple pie.

Oak Lawn Community Baptist Church considers their event “the original May Breakfast,” mostly “because they started it over 150 years ago.” (It’s been running continuously, with the exception of worst COVID years, when it was canceled twice).

Two items have been on the menu since the May Breakfast’s inception — clam cakes and cornbread, baked from the original recipe.

“It’s moist as hell,” said Cranston Herald cameraman Steve Popiel.
