The Toll Gate and Pilgrim girls tennis teams have been grinding through their regular seasons and are approaching the final matches with playoffs looming.

Toll Gate has had a solid campaign to this point, mounting a 6-5 record and looking poised to make a run in the postseason. Pilgrim, who reached the state finals last season, has been going through the growing pains as a rebuilding team as it currently sits at 1-10.

Toll Gate’s best win came during a 7-0 shutout over Shea. Svetlana Stepanova took a 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles, while Shaelin Donovan won her match 6-0, 6-0. Emma Hindle won at third singles, 6-1, 6-0, and Karlie Lynch won at fourth singles by scores of 6-0, 6-2.

Adrianna Giovanelli and Julia Cutler combined to win their doubles match, as well as Maia Costa and Kassidy Roche who won at second doubles as well.

Toll Gate’s most recent outing was in a 5-2 loss to first-place Bay View Academy last week. Stepanova continued to roll as one of the state’s top players and took home the 6-2, 6-3 victory. Hindle also won her singles match in three sets.

Pilgrim’s lone win of the season came in a 4-3 win over St. Ray’s earlier this fall. Maia Flynn took home 6-7, 6-3, 7-5 thrilling win in singles play while Michaela Fitzgerald and Madison Boscia won first doubles against the Saints. Sara Rega and Berdinie Delias took home a doubles win as well.

Pilgrim’s most recent outing was against North Smithfield at home on Tuesday afternoon. The Northmen would cruise to the 6-1 victory. Rega and Delias would get Pilgrim’s lone win by getting a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 victory.
