There was a rather unique flurry of activity Sunday morning at two locations on Memorial Drive in Warwick.

At each side of the roundabout rotary, two teenage girls waved pom poms and poster-size signs encouraging motorists to stop by Dr. Kenneth Rudman’s award-wining Wave Dental at 35 Memorial Drive where there was even more activity by about a dozen more students from Toll Gate High School.

As he has done since rebuilding the attractive red-brick building, Dr. Rudman rolled out the welcome mat again to a community organization so they could host an off-season fundraiser.

In the middle of it all was Kerry Murphy, veteran and popular cheerleading coach at Toll Gate High School who offered: “Dr. Rudman always gives back to the community; this has been a great location for many events like this.”

This time, it was an important car wash and bake sale that will help the Toll Gate High cheerleaders raise money for uniforms, equipment and expenses during the upcoming academic year.

“There’s plenty of spirit here,” offered a man who pulled into the parking lot to have his vehicle washing. “It’s great to see these kids working this event. They should all be proud of what they’re doing today.”

Meanwhile, the Toll Gate cheerleaders – whose final roster won’t be finalized on Aug. 21 - had another helping hand, if you will, from Shawna Scotti who owns and operates Happy Signs of Warwick with her husband.

“Wow, now that’s great advertising,” a motorist suggested while looking over the huge lawn sign at the base of Dr. Rudman’s now famous digital message sign that also advertised the car wash. Moreover, the large eye-catching sign that read “Toll Gate Cheer Car Wash/Bake Sale.”
