There seemed no more appropriate way to thank Betty Smith, who works on consistent affairs in the mayor’s office and makes from scratch 27 butternut squash pies at Thanksgiving, than to present her with a personalized hat and apron. Under the guise she would be visiting the culinary program at the Warwick Area Career and Technical Center on Friday, which unfortunately was not in session, she stopped at the arts and graphics program run by Jann Gartner Rogers where students designed and made her baking outfit. Betty is seen here with Jann. Betty gives her pies to friends and city workers who assist in addressing constituent concerns. There is a condition, however. If you don’t return the pie plate, you’re taken off her list next year. (Warwick Beacon photo)
