WHAT A STORY: Annie, a regular with Karen’s Crafts 4 Crit- ters, was saved from the dog meat markets of China and now enjoys the attention of those who shop at Karen and Larry Carpenter’s display. As Karen tells the story, the couple that previously had a pit bull agreed to house the golden retriever of a friend while they were away. They liked the breed and when they saw one on the “No Dog Left Behind” website they were interested. Jeffrey Beri founded the sanctuary and non- profit that rescues dogs from the illegal dog meat trade in East Asia. According to the website, the foundation’s mission “ex- tends beyond borders, advocating for the creation and en- forcementofanimalwelfarelaws,andraisingawarenessfora cruelty-free, sustainable world in which no animal is violated, exploited, tortured or slaughtered for commercial goods or profit.” Rescued from a Chinese wet market, Annie has been a member of the Carpenter family going on seven years.
