Demon Chrome gives a proper dose of heavy metal with new EP

It’s a fact that Providence has had a stellar metal scene for the past few decades. Regardless of subgenre, there’s a guarantee that when a bunch of loud & amplified bands get together at one of the city’s fantastic venues, there’s going to be a ravenous crowd showing up to support it. One band that has been tearing it up around “The Creative Capital” and beyond for the past few years has been Demon Chrome. If you’re a fan of bands like Motörhead, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and the Scorpions, then you’re going to dig what these guys have going on. The best way to start doing so is by listening to their “Hung Drawn & Quartered” EP that came out back on April 20.

With the band currently being a quartet, the record was made with the duo of Dylan Kulpa on guitars, bass & vocals and Evan White on drums. Local production wizard Sammy D’Ambruoso lended his recording talents for the making of the EP as well at Andem Street Studios, which has become quite the spot for musicians around the area to get quality recordings done. The result is fantastic while possessing a vibe that very much mirrors metal’s glorious era during the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. It should be mentioned that each track has a lot to offer the senses with the entire four-song release running over 20 minutes in total, which is a lot for a small array of tunes. While it does only have four songs, the “Hung Drawn & Quartered” EP does pack a serious sonic punch.

The title track begins the barrage of riffs, beats and bass lines in emphatic fashion. When they all syncopate, the music becomes a full-fledged electrifying arsenal. “Daylight” is probably my favorite track due to it having a killer thrash metal vibe that makes me feel a bit nostalgic. I get a similar feeling with “Fire In The Brain” as the build-up at the start and the sheer energy being exhibited gets me hyped. Finishing it all off is “Oh Joan”, which is a heartfelt ballad that shows a different side of Kulpa’s songwriting talents.

To give Demon Chrome’s latest EP a listen, you can simply log onto their Bandcamp page at demonchrome.bandcamp.com. You can also purchase it for a small price to include in your digital music library as well. If you’re looking to see them live on stage, you can head up I-95 to see them at O’Brien’s Pub on 3 Harvard Avenue in the Allston neighborhood of Boston on June 20 with Earthlore, Z/28 and The Watcher. You can also follow their Facebook page at facebook.com/demonchromepvd for further announcements on everything the band has going on in the future. In the meantime, turn the volume up and check out a great record that’s ideal for anyone who likes their music with the right amount of intensity.
