Aug. 12, PACT Act Out Reach and Veteran Town Hall Meeting will be hosted by the City of Warwick on Sat., Aug. 12, at 1 p.m., in the Sawtooth Building, 65 Centerville Rd., Warwick. Seating is limited.  Please call for reservations:  401-739-8804.

The purpose of this event is to inform Veterans, their families, caregivers and survivors about the PACT Act and encourage them to apply for the health care and benefits they have earned. PACT (Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxins) Act was signed into law on Aug.10, 2022 and is the largest expansion of Veteran health care and benefits in generations.  Beneficiaries are Veterans of the Vietnam War, Gulf War and post-9/11 eras who were exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange and other toxins while serving our country – and their survivors.

Aug.12, Toll Gate High School Class of 2025 Car Wash will be on Sat., Aug. 12, to raise funds to pay for proms and other social events. It will take place between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Dr. Rudman's office, 35 Veterans Memorial Drive in Warwick. All donations will go to the TGHS Class of 2025. (Venmo: @Christen-Collins-2).



Aug. 10, Second Annual Neighborhood Ice Cream Social
will be held on Thurs., Aug. 10, from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m., at 33 Potters Ave., Warwick.  There will be an ice cream truck with FREE ice cream and to socialize with your neighbors.  Everyone is welcome!  Steve McAllister City Council President.

Aug.10, Oakland Beach Association will meet Thur., Aug. 10, 6 p.m., at the Boys & Girls Club, 340 Oakland Beach Ave., side entrance. Our guest speaker will be Barry Cook of the Warwick Taxpayers Association. All are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Aug. 11 – 13,  2023 Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses will be held from Fri. thru Sun., Aug. 11 – 13 at the Ryan Center, 1 Lincoln Almond Plaza, Kingston (University of RI). Aug.12, 2023 Rhode Island A Shot For Life Challenge will be held on Saturday, Aug. 12 at  St. George’s, 372 Purgatory Rd, Middletown. The girls will shoot first in two waves, 10-12 a.m. and 12:15-2:15 p.m., then a winner will be announced in their division. Boys will shoot in two waves, 2:45 – 4:45 p.m. and 5-7 p.m., and then the boys winner will be announced.

ASFL Challenge includes a scouting process that selects the best boys and best girls players in Rhode Island to compete in our annual August basketball event. The ASFL Challenge doubles as a fundraiser for the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. Players are selected from both the RIIL and NEPSAC leagues. As much as we are raising money for cancer research, we are also a community of athletes that are using sports to impact the world off of the court, field, or ice. Aug. 20, Greenwood Fire Company and Museum will be holding their next Bingo on Sun., Aug. 20, at the Greenwood Fire Hall, 45 Kernick Street in Warwick.  Everyone is invited.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m. sharp and bingo starts at 6 p.m.  Registration is recommended; space is limited to 50 guests.  Reserve your spot by leaving a message at 401-241-7203 or email greenwoodvfc1@yahoo.com   You must be 18 to play.  Snacks and drinks are for sale.  Bingo markers are also for sale.  Cash prizes, door prize and 50/50 special.  Price of admission is $15pp.

Aug. 20, Pops at the Playground is being presented by the Hoxie PTO on Sun., Aug. 20 from 9 – 11 a.m. at their new playground site at Clegg Baseball Field, Winter Ave., Warwick.  Please come and meet your Hawk old friends and new friends at this fun event.

Aug. 24, Movies in the Park, on Thursday, Aug. 24, Movies in the Park, will present “Top Gun: Maverick” at Rocky Point Park, 1 Rocky Point Ave., Warwick.  Movie begins at dusk, weather permitting. Food trucks are available beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Bring your family, friends, a blanket or chair and watch a movie while sitting on the grass under the stars at Rocky Point. Sept. 9, Stepping Stone Ranch Presents Waves of Glory Stepping Stone Ranch, 201 Escoheag Hill Road, West Greenwich, presents Waves of Glory III on Sat., Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. FREE outdoor, all-day event filled with worship, guest speakers and more! Sept. 9, Vasa Family Fun Day is being held on Sat., Sept. 9, from noon - 5 p.m. at Little Rhody Vasa Park, 10 Boswell Trail, in Foster.  This event, being sponsored by R.I. District #3, Vasa Order of America, promises to be a great time for the whole family.  The park opens at noon with a flag ceremony at 1 p.m.  An authentic Swedish meatball lunch will be served, continuously, from 1 – 4 p.m.  (The lunch includes Swedish meatballs, gravy, mashed potatoes, asparagus, Lingonberry sauce, bread, and butter).  A full bar is located on the premises.  Music will be provided by DJ Big Bill.  Other food vendors and craft vendors will be available.  There will be raffle prizes and you don’t even have to be present to win!  There will also be bocce, corn hole, volleyball, basketball, cookie decorating, the balloon twister, horseshoes, and Tombola.  For the kids throughout the day, there will be a piñata, train rides, face painting, egg toss, pie eating contest, playground, sandcastle contest, and the ever-popular SAWDUST PILE!

Sept. 11, The Comedy Course The Comedy Course is returning for a 6th year, every Mon. night for 6 weeks. Three instructors, with over 100 years of combined stage experience, will guide you on a 6-week journey from writing your first joke to performing your debut comedy routine. You will learn the dos and don’ts of standup comedy and have fun doing it.  The course is $200 per person.  The place: TBD.  Instructors include: Joe Hebert, Coleen Galvin and John Perrotta. Sept. 16,  The Annual Conimicut Village-Wide Yard Sale  will be held on Sat., Sept. 16 (Rain Date Sept. 17) from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.  Set up is at seller’s home and seller keeps all their profits. Conimicut Village Association advertises and publishes a map.  Email conimicutvillage@aol.com  to get on the map if you are participating as a seller.  Provide your name, address, phone number and indicate if you are also available for the rain date.  Last day for listing on the map is Tues., Sept. 12. 

Sept. 19,  The Ocean State Toastmasters Open House will be held at the Proclamation Brewery, 298 Kilvert Street, Warwick, on Tues., Sept. 19, from 6 – 8 p.m. Come and find out why the Ocean State Toastmaster’s Club (OSTM) is a place to learn, grow, have fun and practice leadership, problem solving, storytelling and public speaking skills. Oct. 14, Annual  No More Hunger Walk A walk to call attention to food insecurity and raise funds for local food pantries  will be held on Sat., Oct. 14. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. Over $20,000 has been raised in the past two years. Every Thursday - Get a Job Thursdays We Make RI, 200 First Ave., Cranston. An organization that provides free manufacturing training, hosts a series of job fairs every Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon.  We Make RI offer job seekers a chance to meet with employers, get career counseling, resume help and more. Every Friday Cribbage Players Do you play cribbage? If so, consider joining a small group of cribbage players every, who meet and play at the East Greenwich Community Center, Pierce Street, East Greenwich every Fri. at 9:30 p.m. This is a social group where all levels of players are invited to play and meet new friends; there is no cost involved. Starting Saturday, Sept. 25, Citizenship Prep Classes at WPL Prepare for the U.S. Naturalization Interview with Citizen Preparation classes at the Warwick Public Library, starting Sat., Sept. 25, 10 a.m. to noon. NAMI-RI Offers Family Support Groups The RI chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-RI) offers free support groups for families and friends of loved ones who are struggling with their mental health. The groups are led by trained facilitators who also have lived experience as family members themselves. The group meetings last about 1.5 hours, and everyone who participates in the meeting gets a chance to share.  The other members of the group try to offer help and resources, when appropriate, based on their own experiences. Amenity Aid – Volunteers Needed We are looking for volunteers that would like to help us plan and staff community events, organize hygiene product collection drives and raise funds for Amenity Aid.  Amenity Aid’s mission is to improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable populations by creating access to essential hygiene products. Serving all of Rhode Island, we distribute toiletry necessities to those most vulnerable through our network of direct service agencies.

Hearts for Hospice Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice (VNH&H) is asking for individuals to support their hospice programs by giving $20.00 or more to their Hearts for Hospice campaign. People can dedicate their gift to a loved one who is always in their heart; all dedications are listed on the organization’s website.
