Living with the sounds of gunfire

Posted

I have witnessed for the 47 years that I have lived in my home the progression of a Small Police Department shooting Pistols, to a Large Police Department shooting Semi-Automatic Handguns and AR-15 Rifles at the gun range, Monday thru Friday up to 10 hours a day.

Living with the sounds of gunfire is Intolerable, Constant, and Loud, it has affected my Quality of Life.

There are days when I have to leave my home to escape the endless sounds of gunfire.

Putting Silencers on rifles, and having less outside Police Departments train at the range is just a Band-Aid on the issue.

It doesn’t stop the gunfire that echos through my home, our community, the schools and athletics fields across the street.

School Shootings are a way of life in 2024, and Desensitizing schoolchildren to the sounds of gunfire in their school environment could affect their reaction time if there was an Active Shooter Attack at their school.

When City Council was asked about the Income generated from outside Police Departments usage of the range, we were told there is Zero Income on the books.

Does that mean the Taxpayers of Cranston are on the hook and paying for these outside Police Departments usage of the range?

I am making a request that City Council makes this a priority and investigates further into this issue and report back to the Taxpayers of Cranston with their findings.

Respectfully,

Patricia Schoeninger, of Cranston
