OBVF wraps up summer cornhole season

Posted

“There’s nothing that can hold us back!” Bob “Bubba” Hazelwood mused last Thursday night after rain forced the Oakland Beach Firemen’s Club Corn Hole League final night inside. “We have 40 players who love this league.”

It was the final night of the 8-week league that turned out to be a special fun-filled night with all matches being played inside the Fire Barn’s spacious all-purpose dining-meeting room.

Thus, after completion of the games, there was an award presentation highlighted by Kevin LaPlume taking home the championship trophy.

“He’s really excited!” several people noted as LaPlume posed for pictures while holding the large trophy and Hazelwood explained, “Kevin had the most numbers of wins for the season.”

Hazelwood, who helped Skip Cirella and John Digs organize the recent and highly successful OBVF Corn Hole Tournament that raised $1,500 each for the Gianna Cirella Foundation and PANCAM (Pancreatic Cancer organization), finished tied for second with David Kowalik. Dale and Walter LaBelle tied for third place overall.

Yet, every player was a winner, as it was when 32 players enjoyed the fun-filled recent benefit event that will no doubt be back bigger, better and with more players the next time around.

The OBVF’s Corn Hole Events are known as a super special social happening with fun and sometimes food and unmatched camaraderie regardless of the weather.
