Patricia "Pat" Parker, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 4th, 2024. Born in Providence to the late Louise (DeRousi) Kelly, Pat's life was a testament to love, dedication, and resilience.
Married for over 50 wonderful years to Jerome "Jerry" P. Parker, Pat was the heart of their family. Jerry, a proud third-generation veteran of the United States Marine Corps, served his country with honor in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Together, they built a life rich in love, laughter, and mutual respect. Pat and Jerry dedicated their lives to raising their daughter, Donna, to embody the same compassion for others that they both held dear. Their home was a haven of warmth and joy, where friends and family always felt welcomed. They hosted many holidays and their famous Fourth of July party each year, creating memories that will be cherished by all who attended.
Pat was the former owner of “Movies and More” in Warwick, a beloved local business that reflected her passion for bringing happiness to others. Even into her late 70s and 80s, she worked not for monetary gain but because she found fulfillment in her role as a bookkeeper for several companies in Rhode Island. Her work ethic was an inspiration, showcasing her physical ability and mental acuity.
Pat and Jerry were deeply involved in local Democratic politics and always enjoyed lively times with friends at Cotter’s Barn in Warwick Neck. Pat was known for her quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and vibrant spirit, qualities that endeared her to everyone she met. She enjoyed traveling, beach outings, and spending quality time with her family and friends.
Patricia is survived by her devoted daughter, Donna Parker Nucci, and her husband, Gregory; her four adored grandchildren, Julia (Patrick Curran), Alexander, Adam, and Jonah Nucci, who brought immense joy to her life. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Francis W. "Frank" Zienowicz. Pat was predeceased by her sister, Leona Ann Zienowicz, and her brother, Raymond Kelly.
Pat’s grandchildren will always remember her famous “mystery rides” to different destinations, summer overnights at the beach in Galilee, and the introduction to all things “Rhody:” Del’s Lemonade, Doughboys at Iggy’s, coffee milk, and pizza strips! She spent every weekend with them in Connecticut, and made sure they never had a dull moment. “Mimi Pat” always lent a listening ear and words of wisdom through life’s stages, and made a lasting impact on their development into the people they are today. They will always cherish her words: “I love you more than yesterday, but not as much as tomorrow.”
Pat had a close-knit group of friends known as the "Sips and Dips," led by Natalie Benkovich, who ensured Pat's presence at many merry events and dinners until her last weeks. Pat spoke fondly of her evenings playing cards, swapping stories, and laughing the night away. She was very grateful to Natalie for fostering lifelong bonds and treasured memories.
Pat was devastated by the passing of her beloved husband five years ago. Despite this profound loss, she continued to live independently in their home of 60 years until the week before her passing, enjoying music, walking, and socializing with her neighbors. Pat had a special bond with her siblings. Since the passing of her husband her sister Leona was a rock of stability and love. She took Pat on many special mystery trips for her birthday and to a beach house every summer. Leona was a supportive and loving older sister always willing to lend her sister and niece support and love.
Pat loved the children in her neighborhood and had a special fondness for dogs, always finding happiness in their presence. Her neighbors, who were a significant part of her life, often assisted her and enjoyed her company, reflecting the strong community bonds she nurtured.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at St. Elizabeth’s in Apponaug, Rhode Island, for providing Pat with years of fun and friendship. They also thank the medical and nursing staff on Medicine 2 at Westerly Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion..
