OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

Dog shot by Warwick Police following attack on Greenwich Avenue

Warwick Police shot a dog Sunday night on Greenwich Avenue.

According to police, a dog attacked another dog and multiple people, but was stopped by a responding Warwick Police officer.

Warwick Police reported an officer-involved shooting occurred around 7:55 p.m., Sunday, May 26. According to a Warwick Police media release, officers were dispatched to 734 Greenwich Ave. for a domestic disturbance between a man and a woman.

On their way to the scene, police were informed “that a dog was attacking another dog and multiple people.”

“The first officer on scene observed a dog actively attacking multiple persons in the front yard of the residence,” according to Warwick Police. “The dog charged at the officer and (bit) him.”

According to a later update by Warwick Police, the dog bit the officer “in the area of the thigh and calf.”

“The dog then charged at the officer and bit him,” according to police. “The officer was forced to fire his sidearm in order to stop the dog from biting and get it to release. A single shot was fired by the officer and no additional injuries or damage was caused due to dispensing of the round.”

Warwick Police did not immediately identify the officer.

According to police, the “officer fired his firearm, stopping the dog.”

Warwick Fire Department Rescue was called to the scene. Police said the “officer and one of the persons (bitten) by the dog were transported to (Kent County) hospital and are being treated for their injuries” and “the dog was taken by officers to a local animal hospital where it was pronounced deceased.”

Following an investigation into the domestic disturbance, Warwick Police arrested a 43-year-old woman who lived at the Greenwich Avenue address. Police identified the defendant as Shaina Crossley. They charged Crossley with the following domestic charges: Domestic Felony Assault, Domestic Vandalism, and Domestic Disorderly Conduct. She was also charged with one count of Resisting Legal/Illegal Arrest.

MOLESTATION

On May 20, the Statewide Grand Jury returned an indictment charging a West Warwick man with three counts of first-degree child molestation and two counts of second-degree child molestation.

According to the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office, Aidan Gosselin, 19, of West Warwick, is scheduled to be arraigned on June 7, in Kent County Superior Court. “The alleged acts occurred in the Town of West Warwick on a day between July 3, 2023, and July 4, 2023,” according to a press release from the AG’s Office. “The West Warwick Police Department conducted the investigation.”

SHOPLIFTING

On April 18, Warwick Police took custody of a shoplifting suspect picked up in North Kingstown with an active arrest warrant.

Around 8:30 p.m., March 30, Warwick Police working the Warwick Mall detail, Warwick Mall Security received a call referencing a suspect recognized in a prior shoplifting at the Lids store.

Police identified the suspect as Jason Charles Dupuis, 47, of 187 Yorktown Road, North Kingstown. Police also listed a West Warwick last known address for Dupuis.

According to police, Dupuis allegedly stole a jersey, valued at $100, an MLB hat, valued at $49.99, and two hat pins, valued at $19.98.

An employee at the Lids store told police that he recognized a man in the store from an earlier shoplifting incident on March 26. The man came in the store again that day, but didn’t take anything. The employee had both visits on surveillance video.

Store management informed police they wanted to press criminal charges. According to police, Dupuis also had a prior shoplifting charge out of Warwick Police, from Feb. 1, 2022. Police said he received a one-year suspended sentence and one year of probation for that incident.

“With this value over $100 this would make it a felony shoplifting,” Warwick Police Sgt. William E. Castaldi wrote in the arrest report. “Jason Dupuis also has two other prior(s), besides the original Warwick one for shoplifting.”

Police listed three past arrests.

“With those three on his BCI, also a habitual offender charge will be added to the felony shoplifting charge,” Castaldi wrote.

Police issued a warrant for Dupuis’s arrest. On April 18, Warwick Police Officer Connor R. Bemis responded to North Kingstown Police Department to pick up Dupois, who was in custody there. Dupuis was wanted for Felony Shoplifting and for a Habitual Offender Shoplifting charges.

He was transported back to Warwick, booked and held for arraignment.

DUI

Around 7:42 p.m., April 20, Warwick Police were dispatched to 375 East Ave. for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Following the crash, the driver of one of the involved vehicles was suspected of possibly driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police identified the driver as Anthony T. Mam, 34, of 126 Dunedin St., Cranston.

Mam allegedly admitted to drinking “a little bit,” according to the police report.

Police asked Mam to consent to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. He agreed.

Following the tests, Mam was arrested and charged with DUI of Liquor (BAC unknown, second offense). Police said Mam had previously pleaded no contest to DUI charges in 2023. Mam also refused to take a chemical breath test. Police cited Mam for Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test (first offense), Text Messaging while Operating a Motor Vehicle (first offense), and Interval Between Vehicles (Following Too Close).

OBSTRUCTING OFFICER

Around 10:37 a.m., April 19, Warwick Police Officer Nathaniel Gray was on patrol when he spotted a man climbing into the driver’s seat of a white 2019 Toyota Corolla in the parking lot of Cumberland Farms, at 87 West Natick Road. Police identified the man as Dennis L. Dussault, 57, of 13 Riata Drive, Lincoln.

Following a criminal background check, police found two active Sixth District Superior Court warrants and that his license was currently suspended, according to police.

Gray initiated a motor vehicle stop.

Dennis allegedly identified himself to police as “Raymond Dussault.”

“I then ran checks on Raymond Dussault and observed that Dennis did not match his appearance,” Gray wrote in the arrest report.

Via police databases, Gray confirmed the driver’s identity as Dennis Dussault.

Police arrested Dussault on the active warrants. He was also charged with one misdemeanor charge of Obstructing Officer in Execution of Duty, and Driving with Suspended License (third offense). He was ultimately transported to Third District Court where he was turned over to the custody of the Rhode Island Sherriff’s Department.
