Music on the Hill opened its Chamber Concert Series on Memorial Day at the First Baptist Church in East Greenwich with two magnificent performances of works by J. S. Bach and a fascinating performance by Sarah Whitney on the loop pedal violin.

The audience showed rousing reactions to Trevor Handy for his playing of Bach’s Suite for Solo Cello and Anton Miller’s rendition of Bach’s Violin Partita No. 2 in the opening day of Music on the Hill seven concert series in the West Bay area.

Artistic Director John M. Pelligrino introduced us to something unique, with MS. Whitney’s performance on the loop pedal violin.

The loop pedal records opening lines of a musical piece, which are then played along with the live performance, creating a fascinating duet. You’ve got to hear it to believe it.

The series continued on Tuesday at East Greenwich’s St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with “Three Divas”, soprano Lori Phillips and Mezzo-soprano Mary Phillips, accompanied by Judith Lynn Stillman on piano.

The festival returned to St. Luke’s on Wednesday, May 29 with “Four Hands” (The Millar Piano Dou).

The Narragansett Brass Quartet returns to the Clouds Hill Museum grounds, 4157 Post Rd.,

Warwick at 3:00 p.m. on what has become a most popular annual event.

“Mendelssohn Octet” is the theme for the concert back at St. Luke’s on Wednesday, June 5 at 7:00 p.m.

This one-of-a-kind program begins with sparkling jewels for string quartet and soprano. After intermission, Mendelssohn’s epic-October for Strings-will be performed.

Concerts are also scheduled for June 6 and 8.
